Personal Hygiene Wipes Clog Pipes
No Wipes in Your Pipes
Personal Hygiene Wipes may make for a more satisfying bathroom experience, but they’re proving to be damaging to sewage systems all around America.
Wastewater plants are spending thousands to fix machinery out of their plants. Clumps of “flushable wipes” from wastewater plants are having to be fished out. This is problematic.
Despite being labeled as biodegradable and flushable, they are NOT. These “disposable” wipes, used on babies and adults alike, do not disintegrate before they reach sewage facilities.
Many plumbers and drain cleaners are seeing a huge increase in wipe-related clogs inside homes and businesses.
A plumber from E.W. Tompkins Plumbing Heating Cooling, in Albany NY, suggested that “when we are drain cleaning, our cables run into them all the time. People must dispose of them in the garbage and not in the toilet bowl. No sanitary products, including tampons should we put in your pipes. Drain cleaning is expensive. Our machines are expensive. Clogs happen at the worst times and it can be difficult to locate a drain cleaner when you need one. Gone are the days of removing plastic toys and toothbrushes from the bowl. Now we are dealing with cell phones dropping in and clogs in the main line caused by wipe products.”
