Nassau was originally known as Union village. It is one of the most attractive villages in Rensselaer county, being laid out evidently with an eye to beauty as well as utility. It was a famous summer resort in its early days and its hotels frequently entertained distinguished guests from various parts of the United States and other countries, Nassau is essentially an agricultural town, with splendid water power afforded by the various streams flowing through the town.The long history of manufacturing, mills and tanneries in this town compliment it proud heritage as home to many veterans and their descendants of the war of 1812.
